SG-Registered Audi Crashes into Five Homes in Johor Bahru

Date:

A Singapore-registered Audi ploughed into a row of single-storey terrace houses in the early hours of the morning, damaging five homes and leaving residents shaken in Century Garden here.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident occurred at about 3am on Nov 24 along Jalan Harimau. The stretch of road is located at a higher level than the affected houses.

One female homeowner said she was awakened by a loud crash, which she initially mistook for thunder amid heavy rain.

She claimed the driver, believed to be a Singaporean, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash through a metal gate and smash through two walls separating adjacent homes. The impact brought down a pillar and destroyed three walls, leaving one with a large hole.

Images and videos shared by residents showed extensive damage, including collapsed interior walls, holes punched through partition walls, damaged car porches, torn zinc roofing sheets and broken roof pillars.

A resident who declined to be named said the car eventually overturned at the entrance of one of the houses, with all four wheels facing upwards.

She described the driver as a young man who did not appear seriously injured, though he was bleeding from his leg and able to walk and speak. His friends later arrived and took him to hospital. She added that the driver did not flee the scene.

According to the resident, the driver climbed out of the overturned vehicle by kicking open a window, which may have caused the leg injury.

“He even asked if I could help retrieve his phone, but I was too afraid to go near him,” she said, adding that neighbours helped clean his wound and gave him water.

The car was towed away at about 9am, after which Johor police arrived to conduct investigations. While damaged walls have since been repaired, some residents said other parts of their homes remain affected.

Residents also said the driver had initially promised to compensate them and arrange repairs, with workers arriving about a week later to fix some of the damage.
