Flood Sirens Activated In Petaling Jaya As Sungai Penchala Hits Danger Level Amid Heavy Rain

Date:

Flood warning sirens were triggered across several parts of Petaling Jaya today after continuous heavy rainfall pushed water levels at Sungai Penchala to a critical and dangerous stage.

In an advisory issued this evening via Facebook, the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) said the river had reached its warning threshold and may continue to rise if the heavy rain persists.

As a safety measure, the flood alert system was activated to notify residents in nearby areas at risk.

MBPJ also confirmed that its rapid response team, Skuad Pantas MBPJ, has been deployed to monitor conditions and carry out ongoing response operations.

Residents have been urged to stay away from rivers and large drains due to strong water currents, and to exercise extra caution when driving during adverse weather.

The public has also been reminded to follow all instructions issued by authorities from time to time, the council said.

The latest alert comes amid increasing concerns over flash floods in Petaling Jaya following several recent heavy rain incidents.

Earlier this month, multiple areas in the city and surrounding suburbs were hit by flash floods after prolonged downpours, causing roads to be submerged, vehicles stranded, and water entering homes in low-lying areas.

Affected locations previously included Sections 13 and 17, Kota Damansara, Kampung Tunku, and parts of Damansara Perdana, with residents sharing flood scenes on social media.

Local authorities and emergency teams have since stepped up monitoring efforts in flood-prone areas, particularly during periods of sustained rainfall.
