Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed the MADANI Government’s commitment to improving the wellbeing of the people of Sarawak through strategic investments, inclusive economic growth and the creation of quality job opportunities.
He said the Federal Government remained fully committed to implementing the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and ensuring fair management of oil and gas resources so that economic benefits are channelled directly to the people of the state.
“Every initiative is carefully planned and executed to build a more advanced, sustainable and prosperous Sarawak, not only for today but for future generations,” Anwar said in a Facebook post today.
“Real transformation for the people of Sarawak is already taking place, and we are all part of this journey.”
Anwar highlighted several key achievements for Sarawak this year, including strategic development initiatives, high-quality investments and the creation of new employment opportunities aimed at positioning the state as one of Malaysia’s economic powerhouses.
He said Sarawak had become a central focus of national development efforts, citing his regular visits to Kuching, Bintulu and Miri, as well as the signing of global investment memoranda of understanding and the rollout of major strategic projects in the energy and heavy industries sectors.
Among the notable developments, Anwar said Sarawak’s green energy economy continues to expand with the RM184 million Batang Ai Floating Solar project and increasing investments from Japan, South Korea and Europe in the green hydrogen sector.
He added that investments in international logistics, data centres and artificial intelligence (AI) have further strengthened Sarawak’s standing as a key Asia-Pacific gateway for green investments.
In the oil and gas sector, Anwar said the role of Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) had been strengthened through strategic collaboration with Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), creating opportunities for new exploration and gas development, as well as clearer revenue-sharing arrangements to enhance state revenue.
He noted that Sarawak’s green hydrogen initiatives have been recognised as among the leading projects in Asia, reinforcing the state’s position as Malaysia’s future energy hub.
According to Anwar, strategic investments and high-impact industrial development have also generated more job and skills opportunities for Sarawakians, particularly in green energy, semiconductors, electrical and electronics, methanol and hydrogen hubs, as well as the logistics and aerospace sectors along the Kuching-Bintulu-Miri corridor.
The Prime Minister said people-centric development remained a priority, with expanded housing programmes such as the People’s Housing Programme (PRR) and Rumah Mesra Rakyat, alongside the Step-Up Financing scheme to help Sarawak youths purchase their first homes. Financial assistance through Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) has also helped ease cost-of-living pressures, especially in rural areas.
Anwar added that efforts to strengthen Sarawak’s rights and autonomy under MA63 have been accelerated through ongoing negotiations between the Federal Government and the Sarawak Government. These include the restructuring of powers in the education and health sectors, increased special allocations and recognition of Sarawak as an equal partner in the Federation of Malaysia.
Overall, Anwar said Sarawak is becoming increasingly progressive under the MADANI Government, guided by the slogan “Sarawak Makmur, Malaysia Sejahtera.”
