What began as a routine drive on the first morning of 2026 turned into a startling encounter for a woman in Johor Bahru, after a man suddenly ran towards her car and leapt onto its bonnet.
The incident occurred around 7:36am on Jan 1 in the Mount Austin area.
In a post shared on Xiaohongshu, the woman joked that “on the first day of 2026, this person helped block my bad luck for the entire year.”
Dashcam footage she uploaded shows the man standing by the roadside in a shoplot area, holding what appeared to be a phone. As her car approached, he suddenly sprinted forward and threw himself onto the front of her vehicle. The 22-second clip quickly went viral online.
Recalling the incident, the woman said she initially froze in shock but later suspected it was a scam attempt, likely a staged accident designed to extort drivers. She subsequently lodged a police report.
“The funniest part was when the police watched the video and asked whether the man was trying to commit suicide,” she said, noting that the officers were equally stunned by the footage.
The video sparked widespread discussion online, with netizens emphasizing the importance of having a dashcam, as it can protect drivers from false accusations or staged accident schemes.
