Anwar Orders Immediate Replacement Of Collapsed Lata Rek Bridge

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed that funds be allocated immediately to replace the suspension bridge at Lata Rek, Kuala Krai, Kelantan, which collapsed yesterday.

In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said the directive aims to ensure public safety and convenience for residents in the affected area.

“The replacement works will be carried out by the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) under the Prime Minister’s Department, in collaboration with relevant agencies, to ensure swift and effective action while guaranteeing the safety and accessibility of local communities,” the statement said.

The PMO said the Prime Minister viewed the incident seriously, noting that the collapse resulted in injuries to several members of the public and disrupted daily access for residents in Kampung Pasir Jering, Dusun Ban, Dusun Bunut and Kampung Batu Pagar.

Anwar also expressed his sympathy and deep concern for more than 50 victims involved in the incident, particularly the newly-wed couple and their families whose wedding celebration was marred by the accident.

Recently, media reports said a festive wedding reception turned chaotic when a suspension bridge used by guests suddenly collapsed, causing more than 50 people to fall into Sungai Chatel Damai at Lata Rek.
