Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to make several key announcements on critical national issues during his New Year’s address to staff of the Prime Minister’s Department tomorrow.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the address will be delivered after a special Cabinet meeting chaired by Anwar at 9am to discuss urgent issues affecting the public.
“Tomorrow is the first Monday of January, and the Prime Minister has convened a special Cabinet meeting to deliberate on several pressing matters,” he said.
“Following the meeting, the Prime Minister will deliver his New Year’s address at 11.30am to staff of the Prime Minister’s Department. The address is expected to serve as an important platform for announcing new government initiatives,” Loke said during the opening of the 25th Melaka DAP Annual Convention today.
Loke said the announcements would reflect the seriousness of the Prime Minister and the government leadership in tackling issues faced by the people, particularly in the areas of the economy, education and institutional reform.
“I am confident that the Prime Minister will make several important announcements tomorrow that will demonstrate the government’s strong commitment to resolving the problems faced by the rakyat,” he said.
Loke, who is also DAP secretary-general, added that economic concerns remain a top priority based on feedback received, especially from the business community, which has raised concerns over the current business environment and climate.
Among the issues expected to be addressed are complaints from the business sector, including tax refunds and other measures aimed at boosting economic confidence.
“The business community is facing various challenges, and I believe positive announcements will be made tomorrow to address these critical economic issues,” he said.
Loke added that the Prime Minister’s address would go beyond a ceremonial speech, as it is expected to outline the government’s direction for the year ahead, with a strong emphasis on implementation and follow-up actions.
