A runaway lorry crashed into four vehicles stopped at a traffic light along Jalan Pantai yesterday, triggering a five-vehicle collision that caused heavy congestion but left all motorists unharmed.
Johor Baru (South) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the accident occurred at about 12.15pm at KM3.7 of Jalan Pantai, in the direction of the city centre.
Preliminary investigations found that the lorry, driven by a 35-year-old man, was travelling from Pasir Gudang towards Permas Utara when it allegedly lost control at a junction and rammed into vehicles waiting at a red light.
The vehicles involved included a Chery Omoda driven by a 66-year-old trader, a Toyota Vios driven by a 58-year-old lorry driver, a Toyota Hilux driven by a 70-year-old electrical contractor, and a Toyota Premio believed to have been driven by a Singaporean motorist who has yet to file a police report.
“All those involved escaped without injuries,” Raub said in a statement.
He added that the case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for failure to maintain control of a vehicle.
Police have urged witnesses to come forward to assist investigations by contacting the Johor Baru (South) Traffic Police or investigation officer Sergeant Azim Samad at 019-753 3893.
