Viral Letter From Terminally Ill Woman Alleges Years Of Abuse By Father And Stepmother

Date:

A handwritten letter allegedly penned by a 22-year-old cancer patient shortly before her death has gone viral on social media, prompting widespread public concern and calls for attention to alleged domestic abuse.

The letter, written by Wong Qiu Yeu and addressed to her father, was made public on Facebook by her siblings following her death on Jan 18 at Sibu Hospital. Wong died from cancer-related complications after a prolonged illness.

According to the Facebook post, the family said the letter was shared in accordance with Wong’s final wishes. They alleged that Wong and her siblings had long endured physical and emotional abuse by their biological father and stepmother.

In the letter, dated Jan 9, Wong described repeated instances of alleged mistreatment after she returned to Sibu following cancer treatment in Kuala Lumpur. She claimed that she and her younger sister were subjected to physical abuse, verbal humiliation, food deprivation and restrictions on basic necessities at home, allegedly with the knowledge of their father.

Wong also recounted incidents in which she said her stepmother physically assaulted her sister, while their father failed to intervene meaningfully. She further alleged that despite her fragile health condition, she was forced to sleep on the floor shortly after being discharged from hospital.

One of the most distressing claims in the letter involved Wong alleging that her father repeatedly asked for her identity card while she was hospitalised, purportedly to prepare documents related to her death. In the letter, Wong questioned whether her father wished for her to die, expressing deep emotional pain and feelings of abandonment.

“I am very sick, Dad. I truly love you,” she wrote, while also stating that doctors were still attempting to save her life at the time.

The letter ends with Wong expressing hope that her father would reflect on his actions after her passing and treat his children better in the future.

The Facebook post has since been widely shared, drawing strong reactions from netizens, many of whom expressed outrage, grief and sympathy for the family. Some users have also called on authorities to investigate the allegations raised in the letter.

As of publication, there has been no official statement from the individuals named in the post, nor confirmation from authorities on whether any investigation has been initiated.
