Seungri, former member of the K-pop group Big Bang, has once again drawn public attention amid claims that he attempted to establish a “second Burning Sun” nightclub in Cambodia.
Seungri was a central figure in the 2019 Burning Sun scandal in South Korea, which involved allegations of sexual crimes, prostitution mediation, and other illegal activities. He served a prison sentence of 1 year and 6 months on nine charges, including violations of the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Trafficking, the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, the Food Sanitation Act, habitual gambling, and the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act. Following his release, Seungri was expelled from the South Korean entertainment industry and transitioned into business ventures overseas.
Recent reports suggest that Seungri has been active in Cambodia and Southeast Asia, making statements such as, “I will bring G-Dragon here someday,” and using Big Bang’s image to promote his business ventures. He has also been spotted in public venues domestically and abroad, including a Songpa-gu, Seoul restaurant and a nightclub in Hangzhou, China, drawing attention to his changed appearance since his idol days.
Seungri has again become a topic of discussion due to alleged links to crimes targeting Koreans in Cambodia. Reports indicate he had previously visited ‘Prince Brewing,’ a nightclub operated by Prince Enterprise (Prince Holdings), a Chinese-Cambodian company accused locally of illegal activities. While the exact nature of Seungri’s involvement remains unclear, new claims suggest deeper connections.
On January 19, reporter Oh Hyuk-jin of the YouTube channel ‘Jiriji Rit’ stated: “In Cambodia, there are reports that Seungri parties with high-ranking members of a Cambodian crime complex, similar to South Korea’s Burning Sun. He associates with money launderers, voice phishing criminals, and individuals involved in casinos. He appears to have been preparing to establish an operation akin to a second Burning Sun.”
According to the report, Seungri still carries the recognition of his Big Bang fame in Southeast Asia, which may have facilitated his alleged involvement in these activities. It is reported that he primarily travels between Thailand and Cambodia.
Speculation about Seungri’s role in the Cambodian crime scene has intensified, reigniting public interest in the former K-pop star and his post-entertainment business dealings.
