The supply of chicken and eggs in the domestic market is expected to remain sufficient and stable, particularly ahead of the Ramadan period next month.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said ministry data shows that current supply levels for both commodities are steady. However, he noted that factors such as smuggling could disrupt the market, stressing the need for cooperation among relevant agencies and ministries to prevent such activities.
Mohamad added that chicken imports will continue to be carefully managed to ensure they are balanced with local production, while safeguarding the livelihoods of small and medium-scale breeders.
Addressing concerns over rising feed costs, he said the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) and the Agriculture Department have developed alternative feed sources, including palm kernel cake, Black Soldier Fly larvae and locally grown grain corn.
Currently, 15 companies are involved in local grain corn cultivation, supported by government funding and logistics assistance.
On efforts to help small breeders transition to closed-house systems, Mohamad said the move depends on their readiness in terms of infrastructure and logistics. As of December 2025, financing worth RM62.7 million had been approved for the livestock subsector, though no subsidies are provided for the transition.
