A court in Taiwan has sentenced a mother to more than 10 years in prison after she was found guilty of sexually abusing her three sons and recording the assaults to satisfy her boyfriend’s alleged incest fetish.
According to court findings, the disturbing offences took place between 2020 and 2021 in New Taipei City. Prosecutors said the woman’s boyfriend, surnamed Jian, repeatedly encouraged her through mobile messages to abuse her children and send him explicit videos.
The court heard that the mother targeted her three sons, who were secondary and high school students at the time. She was found to have assaulted them while they were asleep, allegedly touching them, performing sexual acts and recording the incidents on her mobile phone before sending the footage to her boyfriend.
Judges also found that one of the victims had developmental and learning disabilities. Despite knowing her son’s condition and vulnerability, the mother repeatedly took advantage of his inability to resist or fully understand the abuse, causing severe psychological and emotional harm.
The case became even more shocking after investigators revealed that Jian allegedly visited the family’s home on at least one occasion. Court documents stated that he instructed the mother to abuse one of her sons in front of him and later carried out indecent acts himself after the boy reportedly froze in fear.
The court also heard allegations that Jian later pressured the woman into carrying out further sexual acts involving both himself and one of her sons, describing the offences as particularly serious due to the abuse of parental trust and the lasting trauma inflicted on the victims.
In the original trial, the New Taipei District Court sentenced both defendants to 10 years and six months’ imprisonment, condemning the mother for betraying her duty to protect her children and criticising Jian for encouraging the abuse to satisfy his own desires.
Following an appeal, the Taiwan High Court upheld the mother’s 10-year, six-month prison sentence, ruling that her actions had severely damaged the physical and emotional well-being of her children.
Jian’s sentence was reduced to nine years and eight months after the court took into account that he had reached a settlement with the victims’ family during the appeal process. The case remains subject to further appeal.
