Three suspected Malaysian criminals were detained after turning aggressive at an airport in Mumbai, India, following their deportation from the United Kingdom.
According to Bernama, the incident occurred at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Sunday, January 25, after the men were denied entry into the UK and sent back to India, their last port of departure.
The trio, who are wanted in Malaysia for offences including murder, arson, and robbery, had allegedly fled Malaysia to Mumbai before attempting to travel onward to Manchester. British authorities rejected their entry and deported them back to India.
Upon arrival in Mumbai, the suspects reportedly became violent and were involved in a scuffle with Indian security personnel. An airport source said several officers were required to restrain them and escort them to a secure area.
The men were subsequently placed in the airport’s detention room under heightened security, according to Free Malaysia Today (FMT).
A special Malaysian police team is expected to travel to Mumbai to facilitate the repatriation of the three suspects.
The case is believed to be linked to a criminal gang dismantled by Malaysian authorities last year. In September, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said police had broken up a gang allegedly connected to the killing of two men in Taman Sentosa, Klang.
The gang, led by a Malaysian, was said to have operated since 2023 and consisted of 33 members. It was allegedly involved in multiple violent crimes, including murder, armed attacks, arson, and gang robberies across Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, and Perak.
Bukit Aman’s Op Jack Sparrow led to the arrest of 17 suspects aged between 19 and 44 under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act.
