The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has initiated a public consultation exercise on a proposed regulatory framework under the forthcoming Online Safety Act 2025.
The consultation covers draft Codes of Risk Mitigation as well as a Child Protection Code, aimed at enhancing safeguards within the digital space. The proposed framework seeks to strengthen the responsibility of online service providers in managing safety risks, with particular focus on children, families and vulnerable communities.
Under the draft documents, platforms would be required to implement reasonable and effective measures to minimise online harm in a practical and measurable manner. The initiative reflects growing concerns over digital safety and the need for clearer accountability standards in the online environment.
MCMC is calling on members of the public, industry stakeholders and civil society organisations to participate in shaping a safer online ecosystem. Feedback is being sought on both the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed measures.
Submissions can be made either physically or electronically, with the deadline set for 5pm on March 13. Further details, including access to the draft codes, are available on the commission’s official website and online portal.
