Donald Trump Says Iran War Could Last Four Weeks Amid Escalating Strikes

Date:

United States President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the ongoing war against Iran could last up to a month, as Washington confirmed the destruction of the headquarters of Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guards and Israel declared the joint offensive had delivered a “severe blow” to Tehran’s command structure.

The remarks came a day after the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, an event that has deepened uncertainty across the Middle East and rattled global markets. Military operations by the US and Israel have continued, sending shockwaves through the shipping, aviation and energy sectors. American officials have indicated the campaign is expected to run for several days.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, Trump said the operation was envisioned as a four-week process.

“It’s always been about four weeks or so. It’s a big country, and as strong as it is, it will take around four weeks – or less,” he was quoted as saying.

While he signalled openness to renewed dialogue with Tehran, he declined to confirm whether talks would resume soon. “They want to talk, but I said you should have talked last week, not this week,” he added.
