MCMC Moves to Block Circulation of 2024 Video Containing Anti-Islam Content on Social Media

Date:

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has announced measures to curb the spread of a resurfaced video from 2024 depicting an incident in Singapore, which contains content offensive to Islam, including footage of the Quran being desecrated.

In a statement today, MCMC said it received public complaints regarding the video, which is believed to have been re-uploaded online, causing concern and tension among communities.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the individual involved is a Singaporean, and the incident also took place in Singapore,” the commission said.

MCMC is working closely with social media platforms, including Threads, Facebook, and TikTok, to ensure appropriate action is taken, such as blocking access and preventing further circulation of the video in Malaysia.

The commission emphasised that sharing content that touches on religious sensitivities and could disrupt the harmony of Malaysia’s multicultural society is irresponsible and may lead to legal action under existing laws.

Members of the public are advised not to upload, share, or re-circulate the video. Any information related to the case can be submitted to MCMC via https://aduan.mcmc.gov.my or reported to the Royal Malaysia Police for further action.
