The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several areas in Sarawak and Sabah today, Thursday, 5 March 2026.
In Sarawak, the warning covers Kuching, Serian, and Samarahan, while in Sabah, it applies to Sandakan, including Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran, and Sandakan districts, effective until 1:00pm.
Authorities warned that heavy rain, strong winds, and lightning are expected, with rainfall intensity potentially exceeding 20mm per hour for at least an hour. The short-term thunderstorm alerts are valid for up to six hours per issuance.
MetMalaysia urged residents in the affected areas to stay vigilant, avoid open spaces, and take precautionary measures to ensure safety during the storm.
