Police Arrest Four After Viral Video Of Reckless Firework Lighting From Car

Date:

A local woman and three men have been apprehended by the police on Saturday following a viral video depicting individuals lighting fireworks dangerously from inside a moving car. Shah Alam District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol, confirmed that the arrests took place at approximately 2:30 pm. The suspects, all Malaysian nationals aged between 21 and 28, were taken into custody to assist with ongoing investigations into the reckless incident.

The police operations were carried out across two locations, specifically in the Sungai Buloh area and Seksyen 9, Shah Alam. According to authorities, the swift action was prompted by public concern after footage of the hazardous behaviour began circulating widely on social media platforms. The suspects are believed to be the individuals involved in the recorded act, which posed a significant safety risk to other road users.

During the series of arrests, law enforcement officers also seized several items linked to the case. Among the confiscated property was a Proton Satria, which is suspected to be the vehicle seen in the viral clip. Additionally, police recovered a mobile phone and a single firework stick, which investigators believe was of the same type used during the dangerous stunt. These items have been logged as evidence for the formal prosecution process.

All four individuals have been placed under a three-day remand order, which is set to expire on 31 March. This period allows the police to conduct a thorough interrogation and complete the necessary documentation for the legal proceedings. Assistant Commissioner Ramsay noted in a statement on Sunday that the investigation is being handled with urgency to ensure that such acts of public endangerment are met with appropriate legal consequences.

The case gained significant traction earlier this week when social media users flagged the irresponsible behaviour of a man seen leaning out or operating from within a moving vehicle to ignite pyrotechnics. Public reaction to the footage was largely one of condemnation, with many calling for stricter enforcement against illegal firework usage on public roads. The police have reiterated their warning that any activities threatening public safety will be dealt with strictly under existing laws.
