Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has denied the circulation of false messages and visuals claiming that electricity tariffs will increase starting in April, saying the information is misleading and could cause public confusion.
In a statement on Wednesday, TNB clarified that any adjustment to electricity costs is currently governed by the Automatic Fuel Adjustment Mechanism (AFA), which has been in place in the energy sector since July 2025.
The company explained that AFA rates are determined based on changes in global fuel prices and foreign exchange rates, and are adjusted on a monthly basis following confirmation by the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga).
TNB stressed that any official changes to AFA rates will only be announced through its authorised communication channels.
It added that it remains committed to ensuring the public receives accurate and transparent information at all times.
The utility company said it will also report the spread of false information to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further action.
Members of the public have been advised not to share unverified content and to refer only to official announcements from TNB.
TNB also urged users to verify information before sharing it to avoid unnecessary confusion, adding that any doubts or enquiries can be directed via TNB Careline’s Facebook page, X account @Tenaga_Nasional, or email at CareLine@myTNB.my.
