A magistrate’s court has sentenced a retiree to seven days in jail after he pleaded guilty to secretly taking photographs of a female lawyer without her consent.
Magistrate Mahmoodah VM Abdul Latiff handed down the sentence to S Anandhan, who admitted to the offence under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a woman.
The court also imposed a fine of RM4,000, with an additional six months’ jail in default of payment.
According to the facts of the case, the incident occurred on April 8 at a restaurant in Rawang, where the victim was dining when the accused allegedly took photos of her thigh from a distance.
The victim later lodged a police report, stating that she felt traumatised by the incident and required therapy following what had happened.
Deputy public prosecutor Hafiz Aiman Badrisham appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer V Kumar.
