Man Arrested After 15KM Police Chase Following Roadblock Escape In Pontian

Date:

A local man was arrested after attempting to flee a police roadblock during an operation in Pontian, forcing officers into a 15-kilometre chase early yesterday morning.

Pontian District Police Chief Hadzrat Hussien Mion Hussain said the 37-year-old suspect was driving a Honda City when he was flagged down at a roadblock in Jalan Kampung Sungai Karang at around 9am.

Instead of stopping, the driver allegedly ignored police instructions and sped off dangerously, overtaking other vehicles in an attempt to evade arrest.

Police pursued the vehicle from the checkpoint before successfully intercepting it at Kilometre 15 of the Pontian–Kukup Road near Jalan Berbatu.

Authorities later conducted a urine test on the suspect, which returned positive for methamphetamine. Checks also revealed he had prior records involving drug-related offences and obstructing public servants.

The case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987, Section 186 of the Penal Code, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
