Japanese authorities are investigating a suspected body disposal case in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, where a city employee is alleged to have abandoned his wife’s remains inside an incinerator at Asahiyama Zoo.
According to Hokkaido Broadcasting (HBC), sources involved in the investigation said the man, believed to be in his 30s and working at Asahikawa City, reportedly admitted during questioning that he disposed of his wife’s body at the zoo’s facility.
Other reports indicated that the suspect had continued going to work as usual on April 23, despite the alleged incident.
Police are currently asking him to cooperate further in providing details, while also conducting on-site investigations within the zoo grounds based on his statements.
Asahiyama Zoo has been temporarily closed from April 8 to 28 as part of its seasonal preparations for the summer period.
Authorities are continuing their investigation cautiously as they work to verify the suspect’s account and establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
