Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a Level 1 hot weather alert, placing 15 areas across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak under a cautionary status amid rising temperatures.
In Peninsular Malaysia, the alert covers the entire state of Perlis, along with several districts in Kedah including Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Pendang, Padang Terap, Kota Setar, Kuala Muda and Sik. Authorities note that prolonged dry conditions have contributed to the elevated heat levels observed in these regions.
The warning also extends to Hulu Perak in Perak, as well as Machang and Pasir Mas in Kelantan. Such alerts are typically issued during periods of sustained high temperatures, which may pose health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups.
In East Malaysia, Beaufort in Sabah has been placed under the same alert status, alongside Kapit, Limbang and Marudi in Sarawak, reflecting a wider regional impact of the current heatwave conditions.
According to MetMalaysia, a Level 1 or “alert” status is declared when the daily maximum temperature reaches between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days. While not categorised as extreme, the conditions warrant precautionary measures to minimise health risks and heat-related illnesses.
