UMNO Selangor To File Police Report Against Seri Kembangan Adun Over Controversy

Date:

UMNO Selangor is set to file a police report to enable immediate investigations into Seri Kembangan assemblywoman Wong Siew Ki, as well as individuals linked to the circulation of an image alleged to have insulted the royal institution.

Sungai Besar UMNO division chief Jamal Md Yunos said the move follows growing controversy triggered by issues raised by the assemblywoman, which are claimed to have touched on sensitive matters among the public.

He added that the party views seriously the spread of an edited image allegedly depicting Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in a derogatory manner, describing it as an excessive insult against the Selangor royal institution.

“UMNO Selangor urges firm and uncompromising action against any party attempting to disrupt state harmony or insult the Malay Rulers,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Jamal stressed that the royal institution must be respected at all times, warning that any act challenging the sovereignty and dignity of the Sultan of Selangor should not be taken lightly.

He further claimed that the statements raised had not only offended the sensitivities of the Malay and Muslim communities, but also incited negative reactions and created space for irresponsible parties to act more aggressively, including resorting to insulting the Sultan.

According to him, the situation escalated after an edited and offensive image allegedly portraying the Sultan went viral, which he described as a deeply disrespectful act unacceptable to citizens who uphold the monarchy.

He also criticised the Seri Kembangan assemblywoman, alleging that her failure to understand public sensitivities and continued focus on contentious issues contributed to the current tensions.
