Negeri Sembilan UMNO Youth, Wanita and Puteri wings have accused Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun of mishandling the ongoing adat (customary) crisis in the state, following the reported eviction order involving the official residence and Balai Undang Sungei Ujong.
In a joint statement on Friday, the three wings claimed the abrupt directive to relocate staff and vacate the premises only reinforced concerns that the matter was not being handled with proper wisdom or sensitivity.
They said the move, which took effect on April 28, 2026 for staff relocation and the following day for the evacuation of the official residence, appeared to have been issued while internal disputes involving the Undang Luak Sungei Ujong were still unresolved.
The groups stressed that the Undang institution is not merely an administrative post, but an integral part of Negeri Sembilan’s unique adat structure, carrying historical, cultural and constitutional significance under the state’s governing framework.
They also argued that any action involving the institution should have been carried out with restraint, respect and careful consideration, rather than through what they described as premature administrative intervention.
The statement further claimed that the episode reflected a broader failure in leadership, particularly in managing sensitive adat-related disputes and preserving public confidence in traditional institutions.
The controversy emerged after a letter from the Negeri Sembilan state secretary’s office instructed the vacating of the official residence and Balai Undang Sungei Ujong in Seremban, reportedly linked to decisions made during a special session involving the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang and the State Legislative Assembly.
The situation has escalated tensions surrounding the state’s traditional leadership structure, with various parties continuing to trade accusations over the handling of the dispute and its implications for Negeri Sembilan’s adat system.
