A man has been arrested after allegedly spraying pepper spray inside a crowded Guangzhou Metro train, causing panic and multiple passengers to suffer discomfort during the incident, according to local reports.

The incident reportedly took place on April 30 on Metro Line 3, en route to Tiyu Xilu Station. Videos circulating online showed passengers coughing, covering their faces and rushing for the doors as the unidentified substance spread through the packed carriage, triggering chaos.

Some witnesses claimed the situation escalated after the man was suspected of secretly filming female passengers. When confronted, he allegedly used pepper spray in an attempt to escape, causing widespread panic inside the train.

Upon arrival at the station, passengers quickly evacuated the carriage, with some seen washing their faces using bottled water on the platform. Others reportedly felt unwell, with at least one person seen lying on the ground in distress.

There were also claims that the suspect was restrained by passengers after the train stopped, and later confronted on the platform. However, official details regarding the arrest have not been fully released, and authorities have yet to issue a detailed public statement on the sequence of events.

Metro police have since confirmed that pepper spray was used and that the suspect has been detained. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the incident.
