‘Opposition Reps Receive RM200,000 A Year’ – Johor BN Chief Rejects Claims PH Assemblymen Received No State Allocations

Date:

Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) leader Mohd Jafni Md Shukor has dismissed claims that Pakatan Harapan (PH) assemblymen in the state were denied government allocations, describing the allegation as inaccurate and contrary to the facts.

The Bukit Permai assemblyman said he was surprised by the claim, particularly because those making the allegation were familiar with how the state administration operates and the assistance provided by the Johor government.

In a video shared on Facebook, Mohd Jafni reportedly stated that every opposition assemblyman receives an annual allocation of RM200,000 and is also involved in official state-level meetings related to development and public welfare matters.

He said numerous applications submitted by opposition representatives had also been approved, stressing that the Johor government adopts a professional approach in administering the state regardless of political differences.

“The RM200,000 yearly allocation, whose money is that? The State Assembly Action Council and District Development Action Committee meetings they attend, whose meetings are those?” he reportedly said.

Mohd Jafni also criticised certain individuals for attending government meetings and seeking assistance from the state administration, only to claim otherwise during election campaigns.

According to him, Johor voters are mature enough to recognise the difference between leaders who genuinely serve the people and those who use such issues for political mileage.

The remarks came after Bukit Batu assemblyman Arthur Chiong Sen Sern reportedly apologised and retracted an earlier statement claiming he had not received any allocation from the Johor government this year.

Chiong, who is also Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for the Bukit Batu seat in the July 11 state election, later acknowledged that he had made an error while speaking during the launch of the constituency’s election machinery in Taman Putri last Saturday.

His admission has since sparked renewed debate over state allocations and the treatment of opposition representatives in Johor, an issue that has become a talking point ahead of the upcoming state polls.
