A man’s attempt to evade arrest by hiding under a bed ended in failure after he was discovered and detained by police during a raid at a house in Jalan Berlian 25, Taman Renggam Jaya, Simpang Renggam on Monday night.
Bahrin Mohd Noh, who is the Kluang district police chief, said authorities received information from the public at around 10.30pm regarding the presence of a suspicious man inside the house.
Acting on the tip-off, a team from the Simpang Renggam police station rushed to the location and successfully arrested the 38-year-old local suspect at about 10.45pm.
“The suspect was found hiding under a bed in one of the rooms in the house,” he said in a statement.
Police investigations later revealed that the suspect has previous criminal records involving crime and narcotics-related offences.
Bahrin added that the court had granted a seven-day remand order against the suspect until May 11 to assist with further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking or unlawfully entering a building.
If convicted, the suspect could face up to 14 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
Prior to the arrest, several videos had gone viral on social media allegedly showing an individual attempting to break into a house before being spotted by nearby residents.
Police have urged members of the public with information related to the incident to contact the nearest police station or the Kluang district police headquarters hotline.
