PAS Youth Gives 24 Hours To Apologise To Sultan Selangor Over Pig Farming Issue

Date:

PAS Malaysia Youth has demanded that the Madani Government, particularly the Prime Minister, the Communications Minister and the Democratic Action Party (DAP) assemblyman for Seri Kembangan, issue an open apology to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah over the ongoing pig farming issue in Selangor.

Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden warned that if no apology is made within 24 hours, PAS Youth would not hesitate to mobilise police reports nationwide over what it described as an act of disrespect towards the royal institution.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Thursday, Afnan said the Sultan of Selangor had once again reaffirmed his earlier decree that there should no longer be any discussion or debate regarding proposals to establish pig farms in the state.

However, he claimed it was disappointing that the Sultan’s firm stance appeared not to have been taken seriously by either the Selangor state administration under the Madani Government or the Federal Government.

Afnan questioned why the government was seen as strongly defending the establishment of pig farms while issues affecting paddy farmers in Kedah allegedly received far less attention.

“Even more unfortunate is the perception that the Madani Government is deliberately going against the Sultan’s decree despite it being delivered clearly, openly and firmly,” he said.

Previously, Sultan Sharafuddin maintained his position against allowing pig farming activities in Selangor, whether on a large or small scale, citing land suitability concerns and environmental risks that could affect public interests.

According to the Sultan’s private secretary, Mohamad Munir Bani, the ruler’s position remained unchanged from an earlier statement issued on February 10 regarding the matter.

The palace stated that the Sultan’s stance was reached after considering multiple implications, including risks of pollution involving land, air and water sources caused by livestock waste and sewage discharge.

Afnan added that all parties should respect and comply with the ruler’s position instead of reopening discussions that disregard the Sultan’s views on the issue.

He also criticised remarks allegedly made by the Communications Minister, who reportedly stated that pig farming activities in Selangor were permitted by the Federal Government.
