Police are investigating claims that fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, may have recently returned to Malaysia to attend several alleged secret meetings.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said authorities have not been able to confirm whether the allegations are true.
He stressed that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is currently verifying the information before taking any further action.
“At this point, we cannot confirm whether the claims are true or otherwise.
“We will take appropriate steps to investigate the matter further,” he told reporters after attending the Autism Day celebration organised by the Autism Centre Pengaman–PDRM today.
He was responding to media reports from an online portal alleging that Jho Low had been involved in covert discussions linked to the settlement of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) debt issues and other high-level engagements.
The report also claimed that meetings involving the fugitive businessman were allegedly held in Kuala Lumpur under the protection of a foreign delegation.
Jho Low, a central figure in the 1MDB scandal, remains a wanted man by Malaysian authorities.
Separately, the Wall Street Journal recently reported that he has submitted a request for a presidential pardon from United States President Donald Trump, which if granted could potentially nullify criminal charges against him in the US.
