Chaos Erupts After Kuala Selangor PKR AGM Over No-Confidence Motion Row

Date:

A scuffle erupted following the Kuala Selangor PKR annual general meeting earlier today after a disagreement over a proposed no-confidence motion against division chief M Sivabalan.

Sivabalan said the incident took place about 20 minutes after the meeting had concluded, when several individuals returned to the hall and questioned why the motion was not allowed to be debated or put to a vote.

He explained that while the motion was accepted, it could not be deliberated or voted on at the division level and would instead be referred to the party’s central leadership for further action.

“They wanted to debate it, but I told them there was nothing to debate as it has already been accepted. It cannot be put to a vote here as it must go to the higher leadership for a decision,” he told FMT.

He said the motion involved two key matters — a vote of no confidence against him and the appointment of village chiefs — both of which fall outside the division’s jurisdiction.

According to him, these issues must be escalated to the central leadership as per party procedures.

Sivabalan also claimed that three female members sustained minor injuries during the commotion, including swelling on their hands, and confirmed that police reports had been lodged. Another report is expected to be filed at the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters.

He further revealed that he had previously lodged a police report alleging he received a death threat linked to internal party tensions ahead of the AGM.

Police have been contacted for comment on the matter.

Meanwhile, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh confirmed that the AGM proceeded as scheduled and remained valid under the party constitution despite the post-meeting disturbance.

She added that the incident did not disrupt the conduct of the meeting.

Kuala Selangor PKR has recently drawn attention due to internal friction following its divisional elections.
