US President Donald Trump has claimed that a documentary about his wife, Melania Trump, is the “number one film of the year”, although he did not provide figures or evidence to support the statement.
Trump made the claim while speaking in Las Vegas on Wednesday, during remarks in which he praised Melania and described her as an elegant woman.
“She made a movie. I think it’s the number one movie of the year,” he said, without providing details on the documentary’s box office ranking or the source of his claim.
Titled Melania: Twenty Days To History, the documentary was released in January and focuses on the 20-day period leading up to Trump’s inauguration as US President in 2025. The production offers a look at Melania’s preparations and activities during the period surrounding her return to the White House.
However, available box office figures cited in the report do not appear to support Trump’s claim. As of August 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was reported to be the highest-grossing film of the year, having surpassed US$1 billion (RM4.09 billion) worldwide.
By comparison, Melania: Twenty Days To History reportedly collected about US$7 million (RM28.6 million) during its opening week, placing its commercial performance well below the year’s leading releases.
Trump’s remarks came after he also discussed Melania’s views on some of his comments and actions involving transgender weightlifting. He subsequently shifted the focus back to his wife, highlighting her appearance and describing her as an elegant woman.
The President did not cite any box office figures, industry rankings or other independent sources when making his claim about the documentary’s position among films released this year.
