Two Arrested After Suspected Methamphetamine Found In Tawau

Date:

Two foreign men were arrested in separate raids carried out under Op Tapis in Tanjung Baru Laut and Kampung Hidayat Batu 4, Tawau, on Friday.

The operations resulted in the seizure of 31.32g of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated street value of RM3,120, said Tawau district police chief Assistant Commissioner Rosdi Mat Jusoh.

He said the first raid was conducted at about 12.20pm near Jalan Tanjung Baru Laut by officers and personnel from the Tawau District Police Headquarters Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND). A foreign man in his 50s was detained after he was spotted behaving suspiciously in the area.

A search on the suspect led to the discovery of a transparent plastic packet containing 0.40g of crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

In the second operation, police arrested another foreign man in his 40s at about 7pm in the Kampung Hidayat Batu 4 area. Eight transparent plastic packets containing crystal-like chunks believed to be methamphetamine were found in his possession, weighing 30.92g and estimated to be worth RM3,090.

Rosdi said a preliminary urine screening also found the second suspect to have tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

Both suspects are being investigated under Sections 12(2) and 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while one of them is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.

Rosdi stressed that police would continue taking firm action against drug abuse and trafficking activities, while urging the public to provide information that could help authorities disrupt drug distribution networks at every level.
