The Road Transport Department (JPJ) in Selangor has seized 41 lorries following a large-scale enforcement operation against overloaded vehicles, conducted across the state since January involving inspections on 194,318 heavy vehicles.
Selangor JPJ Deputy Director Datuk Ahmad Kamarunzaman Menhat said up to Friday, enforcement action had been taken against 11,431 lorries, with 1,595 ordered to undergo weighbridge inspections.
He said the 41 lorries were seized under Section 80(1) of the Land Public Transport Act (APAD) 2010 for various offences.
Among the offences detected were carrying excess cargo, transporting unauthorised goods, and other violations of operating licence conditions.
He added that other violations included poor vehicle maintenance, expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM), no insurance coverage, and the absence of Vocational Licence and Competent Driving Licence (CDL).
He made the remarks during the Op Lebih Muatan (Overloading Operation) held at the Dengkil Rest and Service Area (R&R) on Saturday.
The main focus of the operation was on heavy vehicles violating permitted load limits under the Road Transport Act 1987, Section 57(1) of APAD, and Rule 89 of the Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Rules 1959.
Ahmad Kamarunzaman said drivers often claimed they overloaded their vehicles in order to gain higher profits.
He also revealed that authorities had detected the involvement of “tonto” groups in facilitating overloading activities.
During Saturday’s operation, 132 heavy vehicles were inspected and 30 were taken action against, including 10 cases of no driving licence, 10 cases of no GDL licence, 52 technical offences, three overloading cases, and five other violations.
