Authorities Urge Civil Defence To Stay Vigilant During Monsoon Season

Date:

Malaysia Civil Defence Force (CDF) personnel have been reminded to stay fully prepared for any emergencies throughout the current Southwest Monsoon period.

CDF Chief Commissioner Mohammad Abiddin Abd Rahman said all personnel must remain alert, adaptable and proactive by applying their training and experience to ensure quick response during disasters.

He said he is confident that various preparedness efforts have already been implemented nationwide, including training programmes for both personnel and local communities aimed at reducing risks to lives and property.

He made the remarks during the Federal Territories Civil Defence assembly, which was also attended by FT Civil Defence director Mohd Rosman Abdullah.

The Southwest Monsoon season began on May 14 and is expected to last until September, bringing prevailing winds from the southwest region.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department previously noted that during this phase, lower humidity levels typically reduce cloud formation across most areas.

This results in lower rainfall distribution nationwide, with more dry days compared to rainy days.

Abiddin also urged CDF personnel to remain resilient and committed in carrying out their duties in service of the nation.

He added that continuous improvement in skills, knowledge, discipline and teamwork is essential to strengthen the organisation’s role.

“We are not merely a rescue force, but a pillar of national resilience trusted by the people,” he said.
