Police have launched an investigation into a viral video circulating on social media showing a fight involving several individuals believed to be locals along Jalan Rawang-Batu Arang near Rawang.
Gombak district police chief Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said authorities detected the video after it was uploaded by an Instagram account owner at around 6pm on Saturday.
Following the discovery, the Gombak district police headquarters (IPD) lodged a first information report at 4.24pm today to enable further action to be taken.
Preliminary investigations found that the incident allegedly took place on Jalan Rawang-Batu Arang heading towards the Rawang Toll area, before the entry route to the North-South Expressway (PLUS).
“The case is currently being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting in a public place,” Noor Ariffin said in a statement on Monday.
He added that those found guilty under the provision could face up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
The police have also urged members of the public with information related to the incident to come forward to assist investigations.
