Qatar Denies Offering US$12 Billion To Iran To End U.S.-Israel Conflict

Date:

Qatar has strongly denied allegations that it offered US$12 billion to Iran in an effort to finalise a peace agreement aimed at ending the ongoing U.S.-Israel conflict with Tehran.

The claims surfaced amid intensified diplomatic efforts involving several senior Iranian officials currently visiting Qatar for talks linked to a possible regional agreement.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari dismissed the reports as completely false and accused certain parties of attempting to sabotage diplomatic efforts in the region.

“The reports claiming Qatar ‘offered’ US$12 billion to Iran to secure the agreement are entirely baseless,” he said in a statement posted on social media platform X.

According to Majed, the allegations were part of a deliberate attempt to damage Qatar’s reputation as a trusted international peace mediator.

“Such narratives are nothing more than desperate attempts to undermine diplomacy, reduce tensions and weaken regional stability efforts,” he added.

The statement comes as diplomatic negotiations continue following months of escalating conflict between Iran, the United States and Israel.

Regional tensions exploded on February 28 after the U.S. and Israel launched surprise strikes on Iran, prompting Tehran to retaliate with drone and missile attacks across the region while also shutting down the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire later came into effect on April 8 through mediation led by Pakistan, although follow-up talks in Islamabad reportedly failed to secure a permanent agreement.

U.S. President Donald Trump later extended the ceasefire indefinitely while maintaining sanctions on vessels travelling to and from Iranian ports through the strategic waterway.

Last week, Trump claimed that a final agreement to end the conflict had “largely been negotiated” and was now awaiting completion.

The latest developments highlight the growing diplomatic pressure surrounding the Middle East conflict, with regional powers racing to prevent further escalation that could impact global energy supplies and international security.
