The ongoing search for missing teenager Nur Izzati Humaira Azizul has drawn widespread attention online after a mysterious sound believed to resemble laughter was allegedly heard during a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation at Bukit Changkat Asa in Perak.
The 19-year-old has been missing since Saturday after reportedly becoming separated from her family members and friends while descending the hill during a hiking trip.
The eerie moment surfaced through a video uploaded on Threads by a user identified as Shera, showing SAR personnel combing through dense forest areas while calling out the teenager’s name.
In the video, which lasted over a minute, rescuers could be heard repeatedly shouting for Nur Izzati while conducting the operation near thick bushes and forest trails.
However, several seconds later, an unusual sound resembling laughter was heard in the background, leaving many social media users unsettled and sparking speculation online.
“Ya Allah, hearing that laughter gave me goosebumps. It sounded so clear. Please bring Nur Izzati Humaira safely back to her family,” the uploader wrote.
Despite the viral reactions online, authorities continue focusing on search efforts without confirming any unusual findings linked to the sound heard in the video.
Senior officer from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Azliza Ahmad, said the search radius has now been expanded to 0.5 square kilometres as teams intensify efforts to locate the teenager.
According to her, rescuers are using sweeping search techniques focused on the eastern side of the incident control post area.
The operation is also being assisted by three tracker dogs — two from JBPM and one from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) — alongside drone surveillance support provided by the Selangor State Government Disaster Management Unit.
“So far, no new clues have been discovered and the SAR team is relying mainly on information provided by the victim’s family,” Azliza said.
Authorities believe Nur Izzati became lost after she was separated from five friends and relatives while making her way down Bukit Changkat Asa.
The incident has triggered concern among netizens, with many continuing to share prayers and messages of hope for the teenager’s safe return as the search operation enters another critical phase.
