Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has assured Malaysians that the country’s supply of RON95 petrol and diesel remains sufficient until at least July despite ongoing global economic uncertainty and tensions in the Middle East.
Speaking at the Madani sacrificial cattle distribution ceremony for the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency, Anwar said Malaysia’s good diplomatic ties with foreign countries, including Iran, were crucial in ensuring smooth oil supply routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
“Because of these good relations, our fuel supply remains sufficient for now. We expect supplies to last until July… InsyaAllah, diesel supply is enough,” he said.
Anwar acknowledged that earlier disruptions had affected diesel availability even though petrol supplies remained stable.
He added that rising global tensions involving Middle Eastern countries had impacted the world economy, including increasing insurance costs and shipping charges for oil transportation.
“There has been a slight increase in prices because we import from abroad and shipments have to pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” he explained.
Despite the global pressures, the Prime Minister stressed that the government has managed to maintain the price of RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre to help ease the people’s cost of living burden.
“RON95 remains at RM1.99. Although diesel prices increased, the government is providing various forms of assistance through the Budi Madani programme for farmers, fishermen, tractors, school buses and the transportation sector,” he said.
During the event, a total of 260 cattle were distributed to mosques and suraus throughout the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency for Aidiladha sacrificial rituals.
