A touching story of honesty and sacrifice from the United States has gone viral after a man returned nearly US$30,000 (around RM130,000) in cash he found abandoned in a restaurant toilet — only to discover the money was desperately needed for a woman’s cancer treatment.
The incident reportedly took place at a restaurant in Orlando, Florida, involving 34-year-old Luis Salazar.
According to reports, Salazar entered the restroom and noticed a bag left behind. Curious, he checked inside and was shocked to find bundles of cash amounting to almost US$30,000.
Despite the massive amount of money, Salazar said he never once thought about keeping it. Instead, he immediately alerted restaurant staff and waited patiently at the scene for the owner to return.
Not long later, a visibly panicked man rushed back into the restaurant searching frantically for the missing bag.
After verifying the identity of the owner and confirming the amount inside, Salazar handed over the cash untouched.
The man reportedly became emotional and broke down in tears after getting the money back, later revealing the heartbreaking reason behind the huge amount of cash.
According to him, his younger sister is currently battling cancer and urgently requires expensive medical treatment.
In order to raise the money, he had been forced to sell his treasured collection of rare Pokémon trading cards, including highly valuable limited-edition collectibles he had spent years gathering.
He had reportedly just completed the sale before heading to the hospital when he accidentally left the bag in the restaurant restroom.
The man admitted that if the RM130,000 had disappeared, his sister’s ongoing cancer treatment could have been seriously affected.
He described Salazar’s actions as a miracle during one of the darkest moments of his family’s life.
The emotional story quickly spread across social media, with thousands praising Salazar for his honesty and kindness.
Many netizens were also deeply moved by the brother’s sacrifice in giving up his beloved Pokémon card collection in order to save his sister’s life.
Despite receiving widespread attention online, Salazar remained humble and insisted he only did what was right.
“If my own family was going through something like this, I would also hope someone would help,” he said. “I simply did the right thing.”
