MetMalaysia Issues Thunderstorm Warning For Sarawak, Sabah And Labuan

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds affecting several areas in Sarawak, Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan until 6pm today.

In a statement, MetMalaysia said affected areas in Sarawak include Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Kapit (Song), Miri (Miri and Marudi), and Limbang.

The same weather warning also covers Labuan, as well as several areas in Sabah including the Interior Division (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu and Beaufort), West Coast (Ranau), Tawau, and Sandakan covering Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan.

MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 mm per hour, expected to occur or persist for more than one hour.

It added that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts valid for no more than six hours for each issuance.
