A shopping mall in Sleman, Yogyakarta has gone viral after organising a bizarre competition challenging participants to lie down for the longest time, with the winner set to receive 5 million rupiah (around RM1,115) in cash.
The unusual contest was recently held at Jogja City Mall and quickly attracted massive attention online due to its strange yet amusing concept.
A video uploaded on TikTok by account @officiallambeturah showed several contestants lying on mattresses lined up inside the mall while being watched by curious visitors.
Participants were reportedly forbidden from eating, drinking, getting up from the mattress, using their phones or even going to the toilet throughout the competition.
However, there was one major twist — contestants also could not fall asleep despite having to remain lying down for hours. The participant who managed to stay awake while remaining on the mattress the longest would walk away with the cash prize.
The quirky challenge has since exploded on social media, with the viral clip gaining more than 3.5 million views and sparking hilarious reactions from netizens.
“This competition perfectly suits my interests,” joked one social media user.
Another user humorously commented: “Finally, lying down is no longer considered laziness, but a professional skill.”
The unique event also sparked wider discussion online, with many netizens saying modern competitions are becoming increasingly creative in attracting crowds and social media attention.
