A serious road accident involving five people, including a baby girl, occurred along the Jalan Kuching-Serian route near Kampung Ensengei on Thursday morning.
Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle lost control before slamming into a large roadside water pipe, causing extensive damage and leaving all occupants trapped inside the wreckage.
The victims were identified as three adult women, one adult man and a baby girl who was reportedly thrown from the vehicle upon impact.
The Serian Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at approximately 8.40am regarding a major accident involving a vehicle that had reportedly plunged into a water-filled area.
Firefighters arrived at the scene at 9.04am and discovered four adults — three women and one man — inside the severely damaged vehicle. Rescue personnel immediately began efforts to remove the victims from the wreckage.
Meanwhile, members of the public at the scene located the baby girl some distance away from the vehicle after she was allegedly ejected during the crash.
All five victims were successfully retrieved and handed over to medical personnel. At the time of reporting, authorities were still assessing the condition of the victims and determining the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
