‘Give The MB Space To Lead’ — Perlis Ruler Calls For Political Stability

Date:

The Raja of Perlis has called on elected representatives to allow Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah to continue leading the state administration until the end of the current term without interference, stressing that political stability is crucial for Perlis’ future development.

In a royal address delivered during the opening of the Fourth Meeting of the 15th Perlis State Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail emphasised the importance of maintaining a stable government to ensure development plans can be carried out smoothly for the benefit of the people.

“My government is the government of the Crown,” the ruler said.

“As such, I hope the Menteri Besar will be given the space to continue leading until the end of the 15th State Legislative Assembly term without any disturbances that could derail the plans already put in place.”

The royal speech was delivered on the ruler’s behalf by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, at Kompleks Seri Putra.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also urged all state assembly members to set aside personal egos and political differences in favour of serving the interests of the people and the state.

According to the ruler, strong cooperation and continuous support for the Menteri Besar are essential to ensure effective governance and the successful implementation of state policies.

“All differences of opinion and disputes should be resolved wisely and harmoniously,” the ruler said.

“Political stability is an important factor that directly influences investor confidence and their willingness to invest in the state.”

The ruler reminded lawmakers that the welfare of the people and the progress of Perlis should always take precedence over personal ambitions or political interests.

At the same time, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin stressed that government policies and development initiatives must focus on the needs of the people while promoting balanced growth across economic, social and quality-of-life sectors.

He noted that development should not be measured solely through economic growth, but also by ensuring that the benefits of prosperity are shared fairly across all levels of society.

The ruler further highlighted that the advancement of a state depends not only on government efforts but also on the determination of its people to strengthen economic capabilities, improve knowledge and acquire new skills to face future challenges.

He also reminded lawmakers to utilise the state assembly as a platform for constructive ideas and meaningful debate rather than political quarrels and personal attacks.

“Debate and present your views with wisdom and maturity, without being driven by emotions. Always remember that the younger generation is watching every action and behaviour of their elected representatives,” the ruler said.

The royal call for unity and stability comes amid speculation surrounding a possible motion of no confidence against Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah by six PAS assemblymen during the current state assembly sitting, which runs from Wednesday to Friday.
