Fire Breaks Out At PAS-Owned Hall, Minor Damage Reported

Date:

A fire broke out at the Dewan Pusat Tarbiah Islamiah Kelantan (PUTIK) complex in Pengkalan Chepa on Wednesday night, causing minor damage to the hall structure.

The incident, which occurred at about 9.30pm, affected a hall measuring approximately 37.16 square metres. No injuries or casualties were reported, while damage was estimated at around 10 per cent.

Pengkalan Chepa Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Senior Fire Officer II Fadhely Zakaria said the department received an emergency call at 10.13pm before a team was dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival about 18 minutes later, firefighters found that a hall within the complex had caught fire and immediately launched extinguishing operations.

“The fire was successfully brought under control at 10.39pm and only about 10 per cent of the hall structure was affected,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

A total of 20 firefighters from the Pengkalan Chepa Fire and Rescue Station were involved in the operation, assisted by four fire engines and a water tanker.

Meanwhile, PUTIK supervisor Raja Roslan Raja Yaacob said he was alerted to the incident after receiving a call from a security guard at around 9.30pm.

He described the damage as minor and said the fire was believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

Incidents involving electrical faults continue to highlight the importance of regular maintenance and safety inspections to prevent fires in public buildings and facilities.
