Man Arrested With Cannabis Parcel In Jalan Lintas Drug Bust

Date:

A local trader was arrested after a failed attempt to smuggle cannabis through a courier service, following an operation by the Sabah Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) in Jalan Lintas, Kepayan, here.

In a broader context, authorities continue to tighten enforcement against drug distribution networks that increasingly exploit courier and delivery services to move illicit substances.

The 30-year-old suspect was detained at about 10.30am after collecting a parcel believed to contain drugs, based on intelligence sharing between JSJN and the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Sabah.

Sabah JSJN chief Assistant Commissioner Alhusin Halil said the operation was launched after intelligence was received on May 29 regarding a suspicious parcel believed to contain illegal substances.

Acting on the information, police conducted a targeted operation and arrested the suspect at Jalan Lintas, Kepayan as he received the package.

During the arrest, the suspect handed over a parcel labelled “Pos Laju” to officers, which was later found to contain 46.66 grams of cannabis.

Follow-up checks at the suspect’s rented house in Kota Kinabalu found no other illegal items.

The suspect tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) after a urine screening, although he had no prior criminal record.

Police estimated the seized drugs to be worth about RM400, and the case is being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
