Government Approves RM50 Million To Strengthen TVET 2.0 Implementation

Date:

The government has approved the use of up to RM50 million from the High-Impact Programme Fund under the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK) to strengthen the implementation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) 2.0.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Finance Minister, said the allocation comes with specific conditions attached, Bernama reported.

He expressed hope that industry players and employers would work closely with the government to ensure proper coordination and successful implementation of the TVET 2.0 agenda.

According to him, the funding will help improve training programmes as well as expand exposure opportunities for students involved in technical education.

The announcement was made during the National TVET Day 2026 celebration held in Putrajaya, which was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Cabinet ministers, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Under the 2026 Budget framework, the High-Impact Programme Fund has been allocated RM650 million to accelerate the growth of small and medium enterprises.

Earlier, Ahmad Zahid said TVET 2.0 represents a major restructuring of the curriculum, with a stronger focus on high-technology fields to meet future industry demands.

Anwar also said the introduction of TVET 2.0 is timely, pointing out that emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, and the energy transition are reshaping global economic priorities.

He stressed that these developments require new areas of expertise that were not previously envisioned, adding that outdated thinking would hinder national economic growth.

The Prime Minister further emphasised that the success of TVET 2.0 depends on strong cooperation from the private sector, government-linked companies, and international industry players in providing specialised training opportunities for students.
