Hiking Date Ends In Rescue Operation And Police Investigation

Date:

A hiking trip in the United States reportedly turned into a search and rescue (SAR) operation after a woman allegedly threw a softball-sized rock at her partner during what was described as their first date.

Police in Las Vegas have launched an investigation following suspicions of domestic violence during the outing.

The woman is also alleged to have left her young child walking alone on a hiking trail, resulting in the child suffering from hypothermia.

Emergency responders and police were rushed to the Cathedral Rock Trailhead on May 23 after receiving an emergency call about a missing hiker.

A man identified as Romeo claimed the woman had injured her knee during the hike and became agitated after he asked for assistance.

Shortly after, rescue teams located the woman trapped on a steep and dangerous rocky area off the main trail.

Police said she appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance, with her speech described as incoherent.

After her knee injury was treated by firefighters, she was placed on a stretcher and taken down the trail for further medical attention.

Following statements from the man involved, police have opened an investigation into suspected domestic violence, while Child Protective Services has also been notified.
