A 15-year-old boy who went missing after falling into a mine pond in Kampung Lesung Tujuh, Jalan Sidam Kanan, Padang Serai, was found drowned early this morning.
The victim, identified as Muhammad Ryan Ziqri Mohd Khairul Nizam, was discovered at about 3.11am by the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) from the Kedah Fire and Rescue Department during a surface search operation.
Kulim Hi-Tech Fire and Rescue Station senior operations commander, Senior Fire Officer I Muhamad Asyraf Zarrin Baharudin, said the department received an emergency call at about 6.55pm yesterday regarding the incident.
He said a team from the Kulim Hi-Tech Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by the Lunas Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Royal Malaysia Police, was immediately deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, rescuers confirmed that the teenager had fallen into the mining pond and disappeared from view.
Search and rescue (SAR) operations were carried out around the area, including surface water searches and shoreline patrols throughout the night.
The victim was eventually located on the water surface early this morning before being brought to shore and handed over to police for further action.
The operation was concluded at 3.50am.
