A nine-year-old boy was killed after being struck by a Perodua Aruz sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a teacher in a housing area at PPRT Legong Ulu, Rembau, on Thursday evening.
Acting Rembau District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Azmi Ali said the tragic incident occurred at approximately 5.30pm.
According to initial investigations, the 42-year-old female teacher was driving alone from a nearby school towards the People’s Housing Project (PPRT) area when the accident took place.
Police said the vehicle collided with the child, who was walking on a road within the residential area. Investigators found that the Year Three pupil was on the right side of the road in the housing scheme, while the SUV came to a stop in front of the victim’s location after the collision.
As a result of the impact, the boy suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
The tragedy has shocked residents in the area, with road safety in residential neighbourhoods once again coming under the spotlight following the heartbreaking loss of a young life.
