The Election Commission (EC) is holding a special meeting today to discuss key dates and preparations for the upcoming state elections in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.
The meeting, chaired by EC Chairman Ramlan Harun, began at 10am at the EC headquarters in Menara SPR, with a highly anticipated press conference scheduled immediately after its conclusion.
Political observers and voters are awaiting the announcement of crucial election dates, including the issuance of election writs, nomination day, early voting, polling day and the official campaign period.
The commission is also expected to provide updates on logistical and administrative preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of both state elections.
The polls were triggered following the dissolution of the respective state legislative assemblies earlier this month.
On June 1, Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution of the 56-seat Johor State Legislative Assembly after receiving consent from the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail.
A few days later, on June 4, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun announced that the state’s 36-seat legislative assembly would be dissolved the following day after receiving the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
The upcoming elections are expected to draw significant attention as political parties gear up for another major test of voter sentiment. With both states heading to the polls simultaneously, the contests are likely to be closely watched for their potential implications on the national political landscape.
